Your first Atlético Madrid match at the Metropolitano: a practical guide

Choose a suitable Atlético Madrid ticket and plan your arrival, entrance checks and journey home before heading to the Metropolitano.

Your first Atlético match at the Metropolitano is easier to enjoy when travel and ticket details stop competing for your attention. Knowing what you have booked, which entrance you need and how you will return leaves more of the day for the football.

Start with the Atlético de Madrid matches and ticket options, then plan around the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, the venue’s current name. It is not the old Metropolitano or the Vicente Calderón; those belong to different chapters of the club’s history.

Before booking: check the fixture and the seating conditions

Establish whether kick-off is confirmed and read the individual offer. A published date does not automatically make the time final. Allow flexibility in the trip rather than connecting the stadium exit to a train or flight with no room for delay.

Choose seats around your priorities. A side-on view can help you follow the whole game; a position behind a goal gives a different feeling for nearby attacks. Height, location and the arrangement for your group matter as much as a category’s commercial name.

Ask whether the chosen area is for home supporters and whether any personal or membership conditions apply. Do not assume every stand has identical admission arrangements. Check your particular fixture, especially if you support the opposition, are travelling with children or need accessible seating.

Prepare the metro journey in both directions

The club’s official Metropolitano travel guide recommends the metro and identifies Estadio Metropolitano on Line 7 as the closest stop. Review the service status for your date: a usual route is not a promise of disruption-free travel.

Save the outward route and an alternative way back before leaving your accommodation. Check the connections, last services you will need and suitable travel ticket. If one person holds all the information, share it with another member of the group.

Driving needs preparation too. The club makes access to its match-day car parks conditional on the appropriate parking permission or ticket. Do not assume you can simply arrive and leave the car beside the ground.

An hour before kick-off is not the time to leave your hotel

Atlético’s general recommendations advise reaching the stadium at least an hour before the match. That refers to arrival at the ground, not the start of the journey from your accommodation. Add the travel time, walk to your entrance and the pace of your group.

Read the gate information before following the largest crowd. Find the assigned entrance and ask staff if you are uncertain. Agree on a recognisable meeting point that does not obstruct queues or security checks. A photograph of the meeting spot is more useful than “see you at the entrance”.

Prepare your admission document and travel light

Check you have the valid access document, not just a purchase receipt. The accepted format can depend on the event and offer. Our guide to mobile tickets, PDFs and paper admission documents helps you settle that question before setting off.

Review the venue’s prohibited-item policy and keep belongings simple. A large bag, suitcase or pushchair can complicate entry. If you need storage, confirm the specific service and its conditions beforehand; the last ten minutes before kick-off are a poor time to discover whether it is available.

Include every child when planning the booking. The club’s official FAQs explain that babies and children also need a valid admission document. Ask specifically about accompanying adults, seating arrangements and any additional needs.

The journey back is part of the day

After the game, queues and crowds moving in different directions are normal planning considerations. Leave a realistic margin rather than relying on a rapid exit. Agree whether you will head straight to transport or meet at a suitable spot, always following safety instructions. Check the return route once more before entering the stadium.

Questions for a first visit

Is this the same ground as the old Metropolitano?

No. Our guide to Atlético’s stadiums and history explains that distinction and where the Calderón fits in.

Should I choose a category or seating together first?

If sitting together is essential, resolve that condition first. A shared category alone does not establish that you will share a row.

Who can clarify a TicketFan offer?

Contact the TicketFan support team with the match, number of people and precise question. Keep the response with your booking so that your travel plan uses the confirmed details.
